CNN was founded in Atlanta in 1980 by Ted Turner. It was the first news station in America. This news source is generally seen as slightly liberal with its views. CNN is a 24 hour news station that provides 24 hours of coverage. They find attractive stories and they use those to draw viewers in.
Summary: The flu this year is running rampant. It is spreading more rapidly than in recent years and it has left 30 children dead so far. Doctors claim that individuals that receive a flu shot are more likely to get better sooner. The strain that is present is one of the more deadly strains and is taking its toll.
Analysis: In this article, the author from CNN is arguing for individuals obtaining their flu shots. The flu shots are around 30% successful in preventing the virus which means that an individual can still get the virus. However, it has been stated that individuals who receive their vaccine are more likely to become healthy sooner. They state the virus that is running rampant is the H3N2 strain and that people should be aware that it is the leading virus in hospitalizations and death. The strain has taken at least 30 children’s lives. The author uses strong pathos to try to get individuals to get their flu shots, and uses logos with a lot of statistical probabilities showing successes and failures. The author demonstrates the ability of the shots and explains why it is necessary and many individuals most likely got vaccines after this.
Opinion: In my opinion, I believe that this flu season is crazy. Personally, I have not gotten my flu shot and there is a large possibility I will not get it. I do agree see where the article is coming from where the individuals who received a flu shot recovered quicker and I believe that the shots do work. I believe parents should get shots to protect their kids health so that there are less deaths.
